Low Calorie/Low Carb White Wine

Generally speaking, there’s little difference in calories from type-to-type of white wine, obviously a larger glass has more of everything. Here’s a comparison of the lowest and highest calorie and carb white wines:

Late Harvest (250ml) – 283 calories
Muller Thergau (250ml) – 193 calories
Difference: 90 calories

This 90 calories can be substantial if you drink more than one glass, however, Late Harvest appears to be an oddity in that the calories are much higher than other whites.

If you look at the next highest calorie wine after this the difference is much less:

Pinot Grigio (250ml) – 210 calories
Muller Thergau (250ml) – 193 calories
Difference: 17 calories

A negligible difference! It’s the same story in terms of carbs, Late Harvest is very high carb:

Late Harvest (250ml) – 33g carbs
Pinot Blanc (250ml) – 5g carbs
Sauvignon Blanc (250ml) – 5g carbs
Pinot Grigio (250ml) – 5g carbs
Difference: 28g carbs

Again a huge number, the equivalent of two slices of bread, however, take late out of the picture and the next highest carb white wine is:

Muscat (250ml) – 13g carbs
Difference: 7g carbs

As with the calories a negligible difference therefore the take home lesson is this:

Choose any white wine aside from Late Harvest and you’ll be looking at around 205 calories and 7 grams of carbs per 250ml (8.5oz) glass.
