It’s important you avoid weightlifting accidents if you want to stay injury free, but even more so if you want to maintain your dignity!
Injuries hurt but they heal over time, embarrassing gym accidents stay with you much longer!
Like any mishap, they are funny as hell when it happens to someone else, but if they happen to you then you’ll know all about wanting the ground to swallow you up right there and then!
I’ll be honest and tell you that in my early days in the gym I did some pretty stupid things!
- I got pinned to a bench by a barbell and had to roll it down my body and off my knees!
- I forgot to secure the plates on the end of the barbell and I went to curl the bar and the weights fell off one end and then the other! They made a loud clanging noise and everyone looked at me smirking!
This article will make sure you don’t make the same mistakes or have any weightlifting accidents that will embarass you!
Avoiding Weightlifting Accidents: A Fool Proof Guide To Preserve Your Gym Credibility!
Set the scene…
Your in the gym focussing on your workout but your attention is interuppted by a good looking woman on the nearby crosstrainer.
The gym brings out the alpha-male in all of us but even more so when the opposite sex are watching!
You load up the barbell bench press with an extra 10kg more than you would usually lift. Your idea is to impress her with your feat of strength before making small talk.
The plates are loaded and you get into position…
Without a spotter you unrack the bar and you bring it down to your chest, you push back up and that’s one rep. You bring the back back from rep two and you push…and push…and push!
THE BAR IS STUCK ON YOUR CHEST!
You looka round, there’s no one to help…you kick your legs and arch your back but its going nowhere!
You finally let the right side of the barbell slam to the floor with an almight crash and you get up acting like nothing happened….and head straight for the door and lay low for 2 weeks!

Just whatever you do…don’t do this!
Knowing How To Use Equipment is Key!
Using the leg press machine as some kind of chest press machine is certainly a new one for me!
Sticking With Basic Movements Keeps You Safe!
Using equipment that you’re not familar with should be reserved for quiet times in the gym!
As you can see, when you try to overcomplicate things, things get, well….complicated!
